Can a foreign student in the Republic of Korea also work in a part-time job?

· The Student (D-2) visa or the General Trainee (D-4) visa is granted for academic pursuits, and working part-time is prohibited, in principle.

However, part-time work is allowed if certain requirements are met by the foreign student.

◇ Who is permitted to work in a part-time job?

☞ If foreign students with a student (D-2) visa or a General Trainee (D-4) visa seek to take a part-time job, they could obtain permission to engage in activities not covered by their visa provided they meet the requirements described below.

· Individuals possessing a certain level of proficiency in Korean language and obtaining confirmation from their school's international student affairs office are eligible.

Language training students eligible for part-time work are limited to those who have completed at least 6 months since their visa status change (or the date of entry for visa holders). Language training students in elementary, middle, and high school are not eligible for part-time work even if they hold a D-4 visa (with the exception of graduating students).

· Those who lack sufficient credits for graduation and who have received an extension for their stay after completing their overseas study program (a 2-year associate degree program or a 4-year undergraduate degree program) are not permitted to engage in part-time work.
